Okay, this is the pits

So, I've decided that the blogging safety tips that I've been reading are totally freaking me out and more importantly, will take a while to implement, even though they are vastly important. That being said, from here on out: Initials will be used. I'm not sure where I stand with pictures because for my friends who haven't heard from me, I love the visuals! ...Unless I close the blog, but it's nice to discover other people's blogs and be like, so that's what's going on. I mean, I'm not so full of myself to think that there are more than a handful of people (and all of them are family and friends!) who are reading this thing anyway, so I'm WAY overreacting...I know this. In my heart I know this. But still. What are your opinions???? And for my fellow bloggers, what have you done for blogging safety?

ARGH! Why do we have to live in a world where we have to worry about pedophiles, stalkers, and other crazies who invade personal blog world spaces as well as physical ones and potentially use helpful information against you in unhappy ways? I must say, I'm not thinking kind Christian thoughts about such individuals right about now. And please know, I also realize the above question is pure rhetoric...because we also live in a world with the very best of people, who are caring, helpful and willing to risk their lives for our safety and happiness and who make the world a very sweet place. I'm just sayin'....

I think you're alright to do pictures, use your kids names and be as candid as you want as long as your blog is set to the private setting. That way you don't have to worry about such things! As for the white pages, you need to make sure you're unlisted with the phone company. I'm paranoid as well, and have done all of these things!! Hope you figure out what works best for you!!

Thanks Lacie! I'll look into the phone company stuff...I hadn't even thought of that.

I've thought of going private, especially considering all of the pictures I've posted...but for now I have my blog set so that search engines don't find it and it's not on google's list. So, basically the only way for people to get to it is to know the URL or to link from somebody's blog who is linked to us, or that I've commented on. I've made sure not to ever mention our last name (and I've had to edit a couple of comments because of that). Our number is listed in the phone book, but we had them keep our address off. I also removed our number from google a couple of years ago.

I'm back reading since I didn't know you had a blog.
Alex is super paranoid about anything I put on the internet. My "myspace" page is locked up like a vault. I have to send the other person the invite, since they can't seem to get close enough to send me a friend request. Facebook is a little more open, but still not easily accessible. I tried to make my blog less easy to find, but I couldn't do initials since it's called 'the alex bruce family'. I thought it would be to differentiate all the other bruce families that we're related to...I don't know how to put pictures on (other than the profile). But I should probably change things. In Alex's line of work, he doesn't even like people to know he's married. he's even worse about what people know about me, or that we're having kids. He also worries about the creepy people. (We don't have a house phone, but when we did I didn't want my info out there...not listed all the way.)
maybe I should have you check my parameters on the blog before I put any more info on there!
